Abstract

Thymic cysts are considered uncommon lesions in the differential diagnosis of neck masses during childhood. Most then have been described as asymptomatic and little clinical consequence. Because thymic cysts may rarely be associated with
respiratory
compromise, little of the cysts can be diagnosed correctly preoperatively.
We experienced the thymic cyst in 6-year-old girl with chief complaint of anterior neck mass and respiratory distress. The anterior mediastinal mass was rapidly enlarged and diagnosed as a calcified teratoma with multiple septa on the chest
computerized
tomography. Then a huge thymic cyst infected by Staphylococcus aureus was defined and resected to complete recovery.
